Types of Activities

A course on Moodle consists of different activities. Here are the most common types of activities, along with the associated icon, by which you can recognize them on the course page:

  • Assignment – this is where you send work assigned by the professor, that falls outside of the scope of other types of activities; this may include papers, reports, etc.
  • File and Folder – files uploaded by the professor for the students to download (folder groups more files in one place); this may include reading material, forms to fill, etc.
  • Forum – a place where students and professors can talk together; this may include announcement, assigned discussions about class topic, etc.
  • Microsoft Teams Meeting – a link to a meeting on Microsoft Teams, a video call for everyone in the class
  • Page – static content from the professor; most of the time it is used to give information about the course, a section, or an assignment
  • Quiz – a set of questions that students need to answer; may inlcude single choice, multiple choice, true-false, etc.

URL – a link to an external website
